I started this post as a way to highlight D’s electronic press kit (epk) i found on youtube last night. But as i searched for an image to use for the post, I stumbled onto this blog and realized how much people grabbed onto his image during the voodoo time rather than the music. I guess I’m not surprised. If I were 40 pounds less i may sell more records.. or maybe i wouldn’t.. but either way.. Dood looking like he did during the mug shot period of his a few months/years ago doesnt change who he is and has been, a wonderful singer and musician. yes he worked his ass off in the gym before VooDoo and now apparently isnt. but hey, that’s the business. Whether we like to discuss it or not the music industry increasingly sells images. I hope my image is one that is true to who i am at any the moment i am expressing and representing myself. I love D’Angelo and probably wouldn’t be singing had his music not made such a huge impact on me. I just hope he is living the life he wants to live and people continue to appreciate what he has given the world, and not focus on what he “doesnt look like anymore.”

A fairly mainstream mag (Spin?…I can’t remember) had an interesting article about this a while back, maybe 6 months or a year ago. Apparently D was never really Voodoo fit in his life until that video shoot and he was completely unprepared to be a sex symbol. Questlove claims the material D has recorded recently is the gospel truth. I hope we hear it one day.
