Jean Wells – Soul on Soul – 3×7″ vinyl pack

Jean Wells

Jean Wells’ story is not an extraordinary one in the world of soul, although her voice certainly was. Her biggest hit ‘Have A Little Mercy’ from 1967 was a glorious slice of deep soul, a plea to a lover, whom she is addicted to, but who doesn’t seem to notice. Her gospel-trained voice perfectly encapsulating those feelings, whilst a stark arrangement dominated by an ethereal organ and dramatic horn stabs heightens the unbearable effect this man is having on Jean’s life. Yet at the time this record only reached number 25 in the R&B charts, just another bit of genius amongst many, thrown out by the black American music industry at one of its most creative and profligate periods…

Please also check out her album and single release with remixes by the legendary John Morales.

Out now : special limited 3x 7″vinyl pack!

Visioneers – The World Is Yours b/w It’s Simple

Visioneers join BBE in celebrating our 15th year with this Special Edition 45. “The World Is Yours”; a remake of the classic Pete Rock beat for Nas was originally released in 2002 and “It’s Simple” was a Visioneers version of one of Marc Mac’s own beats from the album “How About A Game Of Chess?”. This limited edition pressing coincides with BBE’s 15th anniversary and the run up to a brand new Visioneers album in spring 2012. Two classics on a classic label, limited pressing with the BBE anniversary design. Don’t miss out.

Out now: limited 7″vinyl

Julien Dyne – Glimpse

Following on from the success of 2009’s “Pins and Digits”, Julien Dyne announces
the release of his second full length album “Glimpse”. Stylistically a continuation of the futuristic elements hinted at on “Pins and Digits” “Glimpse” offers studies in shimmering melodies, woozy beds of rich harmonic sounds that pulsate over thick percussive backdrops. Featuring the vocal talents of She’s So Rad, Ladi 6, Parks, Mara TK (Electric Wire Hustle ) and Claire Duncan (Dear Time’s Waste) this record contains elements of soul and indie vocals against a backdrop of futuristic Hip Hop beats. ‘Glimpse’ offers to raise the bar higher again, moving further into exploratory electroni! c forays and deeper into hazy beatscapes.

Out now: CD & digital

Bara Bröst – Loaded Dice EP

After the great success of their first album “Elephancycle” it is time for a new collaboration between Bara Bröst and the vocalist Conan Kowalski.
The track “No Sports” has already been an integral part of the Bara Bröst live show. Developing over time into a raw percussive House version with an ‘explosive ’ drop – giving it a surprisingly atmospheric turn. The “No Sports” Remix by David Keno & Jaxson, from Berlin delivers a straight House mix with string players that make it far more melodious than the original version.
“Millions” is a thriving Minimal House track yet retains a feeling of melancholic tranquility. The groove is padded by rather cheerful piano and organ sounds. For this track Bara Bröst collaborated with the singer DJane Domo! nique (from Los Angeles) for the first time. Her impressive voice intensifies the enigmatic and gloomy atmosphere of the track.
Demir & Seymen deliver a swinging mix with piano and even horns – this will be a sensation on the dance floor.
The third track on the EP, “Dark Blue”, hits us with impulsive basslines; dub effects and a deep, dramatic melody.

Release date: Feb 6th 2012

Boddhi Satva – From Another World EP

Hailing from Central African Republic (C.A.R.), Boddhi Satva vowed early in his career to make a statement through a signature sound of his own. Ancestral Soul was born. When music is the soundtrack of universal rituals – birth, graduation, marriage, and ancestorship, that’s Ancestral Soul; when music conquers spirits, electrifies bodies and no word is needed to seduce, to serenade, to heal, to love and to share, that’s Ancestral Soul; when deep house music has modern Congolese rumba as wife, West African voices as mistresses, and urban R&B and Afro-Cuban rhythms as occasional girlfriends, that’s Ancestral Soul. Boddhi Satva subsequently became a demanded remixer as “Ancestral Soul” versions of mainstream tracks won over club audiences across the globe. 2012 will see the worldwide release of the debut album INVOCATION on BBE Records, after it was released in Africa in 2011 by Vega Records, the label of the legendary Louie Vega. The latter hand-picked Boddhi in 2008 to be an elite producer for Vega Records and a resident of Vega DJ tours.
The EP “From Another World” is something like a herald for the forthcoming album “Invocation” – yet it is also an outstanding piece of art on its own packed with new & unreleased tracks.

Sandy Barber – The Best Is Yet To Come – Deluxe Edition

Records are made every day, released every week, and even with the best will in the world this means that scores of records are ignored or lost from the moment that they are pressed. However it is also true that the collector, the DJ and the fanatic are all out there looking for something that can lift their soul. So there is always hope that if your record is good enough, one day it will be discovered and revered and if there is any justice in the world so should Sandy Barber’s album ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ .

The album opens with ‘Look Out Sky’ which lays out the stall for the whole album. A glorious uplifting soul song that benefits from the thoughtful arrangement. ‘I’ve Got Something Good’ has a pounding four to the floor rhythm and a great horn arrangement as Sandy tells about her good thing. Then there is the fantastic ‘Don’t You Worry Baby (The Best Is Yet To Come), seven minutes of carefully arranged ecstatic soul. The album has become sought after in recent years for the cut ‘I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping (On My Own)’, once more the rhythm section and its arrangement proves to be the perfect foil for Sandy’s love-worn but defiant voice. This is followed by the discofied version of the theme to ‘Wonderwoman’ the late 70s TV staple starring Linda Carter. This contrasts with the vibrant, but extremely jazzy ‘Can’t You Just Se! e Me’ which rolls along on an astounding piano part and some bluesy guitar. The original album ends with the emotional overload of the second ballad of the album ‘Stay Here With Me’, a fitting showcase for Sandy’s voice. However this being a deluxe edition, not just a re-release, the best is yet to come: 5 additional, nearly forgotten tracks plus two fantastic remixes of ‘I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping (On My Own)’ by John Morales and Al Kent.
