This morning BikeWalkKC is excited to share with you some great news about our bike share project!

We have partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) to launch the public bike share system this summer. Blue KC will provide significant leadership and support for transforming Kansas City with a healthy and sustainable transportation system.

This afternoon Mayor Sly James and the City Council will present a resolution in support of the system. Join us in the council chambers for a big show of public support. This evening we will celebrate with a reception where you can learn more about this exciting development for our city.

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Cashew (upstairs), 2600 Grand Blvd in the Crossroads

With Blue KC’s support we plan to start the system in the Greater Downtown area by June of this year. 200 bikes will be spread across 20 bike share stations from the River to Crown Center. Kansas City will join cities as varied as Paris, Des Moines, Boston, Denver, and Omaha with a system providing self-service bike rentals for short trips for work, errands, sightseeing, and more.

Between now and June we will be hard at work finalizing bike share station locations, planning the system, etc.
