Short Bio
Artist/Visual artist working for social change.
Medium Bio
I’ve had a nice little life so far.
I’ve been featured as a producer and then vocalist in a variety of publications and radio programs on and off line by people whose work I respect and appreciate. I’ve been able to travel to places I wouldn’t have otherwise gone, because of my choice to express creatively and the way in which others have chosen to connect with me as a result. I continue to feel a responsibility to work toward the betterment of all humanity with respect for non-humans as well.
I wish you the best and hope my music and creations serve you well in your lifetime. I create concepts that often materialize and feel good to me. They are shared with you in hopes that you benefit from it as well. If there is anything more I can do to help you and the rest of the world, please contact me. In the meantime, please acquire a song or album, and share it with a friend. In doing so you will help me be able to record more music, and spread it to all those who seek truth in sound and presentation. Thank you all very much.
Large (older) Bio
Miles means “soldier” in Latin, and Miles Bonny is a soldier of music.
He believes that many of the most significant thoughts in life cannot be explained using language – they must be felt. And so they are in his music, a rich swirl of bountiful beats, nuanced vocals and supportive trumpet lines.
Miles has been exposed to jazz, Latin, HipHop, and classical music since his first breath. Growing with and within the music, he played his first note on the trumpet at age 2. Frequent trips accompanying his father, trumpeter Francis Bonny, to gigs allowed him to be among musicians of all types including symphonies, broadway, a profound individuals such Tito Puente and Max Roach.
Miles further developed his musical identity after moving to Kansas for college where he began producing hip hop beats for SoundsGood, a hip-hop group he co-founded. Later, as Miles’ compositions evolved, he more frequently utilized his trumpet and singing abilities. Slowly but surely, the world is taking notice of this Kansas City, Missouri resident. His music has been featured in many publications including Scratch, Urb, Vapors, and XLR8R.
His debut solo project Smell Smoke? features his own production as well as that of J. Rawls and Joc Max, and is available in stores around the world as well as on iTunes. The Miles Gets Open 7-inch, Closer Love EP, Instant Saadiq 12″, INcense and Wine, and more were released to critical acclaim and supported by world-class DJs such as the BBC/Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson, Sirius Radio’s DJ Jamad, and Record Breakin’s Junior & Lil’ Dave. Miles is frequently featured on prominent and well respected blogs across the globe such as MOOVMNT, FreshSelects, The Couch Sessions, Loudersoft, laidback radio, and more. This support was solidified when Miles toured parts of Europe in 2008 and 2009, meeting many of the DJs and producers he once only knew via the internet.
Miles also helps manage the INnatesounds record label which has released music by new and established artists such as Daru (producer/drummer Talib Kweli, Slum Village), Reggie B (singer/producer, Benji B, Jay Scarlett), Leonard DStroy (Deep Thinkers), CES Cru, Stik Figa (Oddisee), Joc Max (DJ Spinna, Kenny Dope) and many more. As their reputation for quality progressive hip hop and soul grows around the world, the INnatesounds name continues to reprsent quality new jazz influenced soul and hip hop music with a respect for the masters of the past.
Bonny feels strongly that he owes the influences of his past to create the best, most honest and most progressive music that he can. 2010 will see Miles further develop as a vocalist, producer, DJ, and trumpeter; as he continues to create music that will stand the test of time.
Once deemed “beautifully chaotic” by a friend, Miles Bonny continues to win spirits and minds worldwide as he remains unphased in his mission to free souls.
Miles is currently finishing releases with Brenk (Vienna), Melting Pot (Germany), INnatesounds (KC, USA), Suff Daddy (Germany), Circle research (Canada), Joc Max (KC), and Reggie B (USA) among others, all while continuing to frequently present quality music via his DJ events in a variety of settings from jazz clubs (Blue Room @ 18th & Vine), to dance parties and lounge settings (FireFly).
PHOTOGRAPHY/DESIGN
I love design, as well as creating photographs. In 2000 I founded LawrenceHipHop.com as a way to connect artists with media. I created it with a few friends who taught me web design in the process. I have used these skills ever since. However this site was created by Gusto Creative.
FOOD
I like food. Especially quality, pure foods free from non-food elements like High-Fructose syrup, MSG, and preservatives. Think about what you grow your body with. I’m learning. Also, my mother Anne’s apple pies have been a great source of encouragement throughout the years. Thanks mom. I love you.
VIDEO
I have developed an interest in video and continues to experiment with creations of my own such as The Miles Bonny Show and the occasional self-directed music video.
FAMILY
I likes kids and was a social worker, addressing behavioral and mental health needs in youth ages 4-18. I am also a proud father who loves seeing his daughter learn to express herself in the world.
BICYCLING / SOCCER
I loves these and wants to do these more often. Holler at him via contact if you love this stuff too.
YOU
I love you and wants you to live an honest, opportunity-filled life free from unwelcome restraint.
WERD UP
Welcome to the site. Look around, explore, and connect. respect - miles
